The Little Event That Could - And Did

About a year ago I wrote about some of what I do in SL regularily. And that something was the Show and Tell event I host together with Florenze Kerensky. Well, just browsing my blog I thought it would be time to give an update on it. Yep, we still run it. We run it now allmost as long as Zonax did run it before us. And hey, this little event is so much fun, we can run it for much longer.

Wait. Did I say "little event"? Outch. You see, the event still is the same form as ever: up to 9 people can present what they built themselves and the audience votes on the presentations aftwards. The content of a tipjar is handed out to the top positions of the presenters according to votes. A little music stream during the show with lots of CC licensed music I found all over the internet runs during the show. Simple and easy.

But "little event"? A few numbers: top attendance so far 57 avatars. Yep, we moved over to Lummerland a while ago, because Yongnam was constantly packed and some of the neighbours there made a lot of stink. Well, we are near to packing Lummerland, too - and for a few weeks the event was so big in attendance, we couldn't have thought of running it on mainland.

Another number: over 4000 L$ of price money regularily, often over 5000 L.Importanthere:whileweseedthetipjarwith500L, we take those 500 L$ back when the tipjar is big enough. So the whole price money usually is payed by the audience! This is one of the really fun things - people not only come over to watch what others made, they are willing to throw in some money to pass on to the builders with the most votes.

Another number: not allways, but very often a full board of 9 presenters. I remember shows where we bugged people to look for stuff in their inventory, because only very few registered for the show. We still often had 6 or more presenters, but nowadays the board can be full right when the event starts. Sometimes Flo had to turn down presenters and tell them to show next week, because even with one or two spares she took on the list the board was more than packed!

So yeah, it's a real fun event. I am constantly amazed at what people come to show and talk about. It's great fun to see new builders starting out with something cool allready or watching builders to progress over time. It's great to see master pieces by some oldbie builders. It's fun to hear what problems people ran into and read how the audience sometimes hops in with helpful comments and tipps (or even the odd script sometimes). It's still a very friendly event, too.

And really: had someone told me that one day we might pack a private sim with a show-and-tell event, I would have called them nuts. But we might do.

Of course I know that some day attendance might go back again - allthough at this time, it doesn't look like that at all. Maybe it's just that the event still is the same simple thing, the same simple idea. It's not living by what we - Flo and I - do, it's much more living by what builders in SL do. And with the nice crowd of regulars we nowadays have, I think it can go on as long as builders continue to build. And I hope that builders never stop in SL. It's what makes that world stand out in so many ways.

Anyways - if you have time on Sunday 2 PM, come over to Lummerland and watch what stuff people created. Or come over and present something of your own works. It's great fun to be there!
